Yemaya Festival 2017

21st - 24th April 2017
Fernihurst, VIC

Four mesmerising days and three luminescent nights of sensory enchantment, showcasing a superb calibre of music production talent amidst an abundance of psychedelic art. Accompanying the indulgences will be our Yemaya Stage, Ashaba Temple, Grand Bazaar, Healing Sanctuary, Creation Station, Live Jam Space, Art Gallery, Performer's Hub, Workshops, and Live Art Installations.

Yemaya is a mother goddess, signifying home, fertility, love, and family. Her healing powers are carried in the great waters, her energy powerful during the ebb and flow of life challenges. Like water she represents both change and constancy, bringing forth life, protecting it, and changing it as is necessary.

We invite you on this journey with us to explore the depths of her unknown waters… from the wonders of the day to the playful mysteries of the night we welcome you to submerge yourself within the underwater world we have created for your pleasure. Through a plethora of aural and visual delights we hope you can find your light amongst like-minded souls who wish to have a nurturing space in which to explore, create, connect, and dance.

Together we can create a reality where growth, love, understanding, and happiness blossom.

We're very proud to be showcasing some of the finest electronic music mixing and production talent Australia has to offer, with a solid contingent of International heavyweights and young guns also sharing their gifts with us. The Yemaya Stage will feature a smooth blend of all genres of Psytrance from progressive and full-on, to dark and forest styles. The Ashaba Temple will ease your breaks with a playful blend of eclectic styles like funky glitch and electro swing during the day, transitioning into more meditative Psybient and world music at night.

Hosted by Tarquin Twinkle, this space is our hub for workshops across healing, learning, and relaxation throughout the days, and a sacred safe space at night.
Dozens of workshops running throughout the event on Tai Chi, Yoga, Reiki, Meditation, Massage, Crystals, Tarot, Drumming, Hooping, and much more!

Coordinated by our close friends at Conscious Colour and stocked with a wide variety of art and craft supplies, this space is an outlet for creative expression throughout the duration of the festival.
Catering to kids of all ages and the inner child in all of us!

Showcasing the works of both upcoming and established visionary artists, the art gallery is also home to an assortment of live art installations and performances.
Displayed works are available for sale with all proceeds going directly to the artist.

When you're feeling the need to get more involved in the audio action or you just have the taste for some instrumental melody, just groove on down to the Live Jam Space!

A place to play and learn from other performers, bring your staffs, poi, and juggling toys to twirl to your heart's content!

We'll be welcoming the sunshine on Saturday morning with a Djembe and Didgeridoo ensemble, transitioning into the main opening ceremony, followed by a few performances to get you into the groove!

Yemaya Festival acknowledges the Dja Dja Warrung Clan as the true custodians and traditional owners of this land.
We show our recognition as a significant part of the opening ceremony, which allows us to pay our respects to the elders both past, present, and future as they maintain the memories, traditions, and the culture of Indigenous Australia.
We are very honoured to be receiving a Welcome to Country from the traditional custodians of the land, along with a full smoking ceremony to cleanse our spirits.

When the music shuts off on Sunday and Monday night we'll be taking things tribal with a big drumming circle around the communal fire.
Bring your Djembes and instruments to join the jam or just leave your shoes at camp and join us to stomp the ground good and proper!
Accompanying the organic audio ensemble will be fire-twirling performances from our regular team, so if the long day of stomping has left your legs sore, just grab a seat and enjoy the show!

Whether you’re after a gastronomical treat or searching for new threads, the grand bazaar will definitely have it!
A selection of the finest stalls from eateries to clothing and jewelry, the grand bazaar offers an exclusive range of handmade crafts and sustainably sourced items only found at transformational festivals across Australia.

Church of Eco-Doof principles apply for this gathering, be kind and courteous to one another and respectful at all times.
By attending this party you accept responsibility for yourself and your actions.
Be sure to bring enough weather-appropriate clothing and camping supplies for the duration of the event.

Please be mindful and avoid littering, cigarette butts especially, and clean up any rubbish that you bring to leave your camping area as clean as you found it.
Be sure to recycle consciously and most importantly take home with you any rubbish you brought to the event.
Leave nothing behind but footprints!

All patrons are required to wear the Yemaya Festival 2017 official wristband at all times while onsite. Any persons found without wristbands within the festival boundary are considered trespassers, and will be given the opportunity to purchase a full price ticket or will have personal details recorded prior to ejection from the venue. Any repeat offenders will be formally charged with trespassing.

We live in a place of extreme temperatures and this time of year is no exception.
Dehydration and heatstroke can both be deadly on their own, but when combined and mixed in with alcohol, physical exertion, poor eating, and poor sleeping habits, the potential for harm is multiplied exponentially.
Please be extra mindful of the conditions and drink lots of water.
Be vigilant and look after one another, check on your friends regularly to make sure they're playing it safe.

Our gatherings are defined by love and respect above all else, and we have zero tolerance for those who take advantage of others under any circumstances. We have significant measures in place such as our security staff and crew guardians, but we ask for vigilance and support from the community to help us protect the space we create. If you see or hear of any unfavourable behaviour at this or any event, please report it to event staff immediately, as these instances will likely be the best opportunities to capture and document offenders.

Despite the fact that the entire crew are animal lovers, due to the environmental protection measures in place on the site there are no animals permitted.

Glass beer bottles will not be allowed onsite, car searches will be performed at the gate.
(700ml and 1L spirits are permitted)

Compressed gas bottles and cylinders are not permitted on the site.

The energy that you bring into the event has a tremendous impact on the overall atmosphere.
Specifically, substances like GHB and Meth/Ice create a very low frequency resonance which is completely contrary to what we are trying to accomplish. They are also particularly volatile with a very high risk factor associated with their use, and create a liability which has traditionally not been associated with the PsyTrance community. Thus we would ask all patrons to respect our intentions for the event and leave any such elements at home.

There will be a 'No Pass-Outs' policy in place for the duration of the event in order to reduce the risk of any accidents onsite, and also to alleviate the concerns of local police regarding inebriated motorists.

All patrons will be asked leave their vehicles stationary from setting up camp until they exit the site, please be mindful in your preparations to ensure that you bring enough water and supplies for the duration of the event.

The event is restricted to an allocated section of private property and as a part of the permit conditions, and there must be no access beyond the event boundary. We urge all patrons to respect our requirements for this year's event so that we may enjoy greater freedom in next year's journey.

There will be a complete fire ban in place for the duration of the event, no open fires will be permitted in the camping areas.
We will have a large communal fire at the back of the dance floor and several fire barrels throughout the event area.
Fire twirling is only permitted as part of the approved festival performance schedule within a specific area during designated times.

These rules are in place purely in the interests of public well-being, and we ask all patrons to respect our intentions to provide a safe environment for everyone.
Any glass bottles and compressed gas containers found during car searches will be seized by security staff.

Two emergency assembly areas will be established within the main event site, one in the central event area and another at the back of the general camping area. In the instance of an emergency, notifications will be provided via the loudspeaker systems, please be sure to follow all instructions as may be required.

What does it sound like?

So, where is it?

Australia is world famous for kangaroos, beaches and the outback, the vast fabled desert that spreads into the country’s epic interior. Here, vivid blue skies, cinnamon-red earth, deserted gorges and geological features as bizarre as the wildlife comprise a unique ecology.

Australia is also home of the bush doofs. Generally held in a remote country area or just outside big cities in surrounding bush or rainforests and similar to raves or teknivals. Doofs generally have healing workshops, speakers, art, live artists and DJs playing a range of electronic music. The first commercial doof was Earthcore back in 1993. Then a couple of years later Rainbow serpent festival started. Still both going strong!

Getting there

All visitors - apart from citizens of New Zealand - require a visa in advance of travel. Australia is a long way from anywhere else in the world, so for most visitors, the only practical way of getting into Australia is by air. Approximately half of all international travellers arrive first in Australia in Sydney, the largest city, (IATA: SYD).

After Sydney, significant numbers of travellers also arrive in Australia in Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. There are also direct international services into Adelaide, Cairns, Darwin, the Gold Coast and Christmas Island though these are largely restricted to flights from New Zealand, Oceania, or Southeast Asia.
